Basic Violin Tutorial: Parts of the violin

July 9, 2010 - 10:19 am 2 Comments

ok, so I decided to make a tutorial… btw the violinist at the top is a woman (just saying =P).  I will post a tutorial every week,  perhaps Thursday or Friday, but dont expect too much (blog description: “The life of a mediocre”,  remember?).  Anyway, I hope you like the tutorial, its the first time Im doing it, so please be kind ^_^.

First Lesson ~ Parts

first in our tutorial is the parts of the violin, why does it have to be first?…. nope, not for formality’s sake (well kinda), but we actually need it as I am only teaching through text and images.

The Peg Box – the peg box houses the pegs which you turn to make the violin tuned. gets?

The neck – this is where you place your left hand

The fingerboard – is where you place your fingers in order for you to make sounds (*note: it doesnt have any frets)

The f Hole – everything in this world has a purpose, whether it be of great sense or nonsense, the f hole contributes to the resonance and reverberation of the violin.

The sound post – you need this in order for your violin to make a perfect sound.

The Bridge - again, without it your violin wouldn’t make a nice sound.

The E Tuner – if you ever need to get the E string slightly higher or lower you should use this because if you use the peg it might go more higher and it has a high tendency to break.

The chin rest – this is where you put your chin.

The bow

Hair – this is what makes the violin to play music,  you need to put rosin in it though.

The End Screw – tightens and loosens the hair

well that is all for now… parts…. I will explain the other parts along the way.

NEXT LESSON – Holding the violin
